Carrah Clayton

Alto II   (2009)

Carrah was born and raised in Missouri, moved to North Carolina for graduate school with her husband and then to Pennsylvania where they lived for 37 years, finally moving to Sarasota in 2002. She was a stay-at-home mom while they raised four children. One son married a Japanese girl and one daughter married a fellow Russian student, so now the family is multi-lingual and international. She and her husband Bruce have nine extraordinary grandchildren. As a teen she sang a lot in church choir and school, but had not sung with a group or performed for many years, if not decades. After all that time, trying out for Diversity: The Voices of Sarasota loomed pretty large, but turned out to be one of the best things she ever did.

Hobbies: Music of all kinds, from opera to folk and bluegrass; reading 19th century English literature or modern American fiction; reading poetry and collecting the poems that she cannot live without in hand-written books; needlework & movies.

Favorite Quote: "To live is so startling it leaves time for little else." - Emily Dickinson
