Who We Are
2009 – 2010 is our lucky thirteenth season and what a season it will be! We are performing in Key West at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on October 9, 2009 and we have added a second Holiday Concert (December 5, 2009 plus a matinee on December 6, 2009) to meet the demand for tickets. Then we will present our spring concert – selections from the Sing for the Cure concert - on May 15, 2010, at the Sarasota Opera House.
We’ll top off our season by joining Resounding Harmony, a GALA-member mixed chorus from Dallas and other renowned choristers, to perform Sing for the Cure in Carnegie Hall in New York, June 6, 2010!
We have performed in venues in Sarasota, Miami, Bradenton, Key West, Venice, Fort Myers and Tampa, and have taken part in three GALA International Festivals in San Jose, California; Montreal, Quebec, Canada; and Miami, Florida.
Our members are from all walks of life and all levels of singing ability, from those who have never sung much outside the shower to professional entertainers. Members' ages range from 25 to 75 and professions include dentists, motel clerks, marketing executives, government employees, and many others.
A desire to sing and the feeling of being part of a caring community bring chorus members together where they have a chance to make beautiful music together. Audiences have responded with unfeigned exuberance and continue to support their efforts without fail.
All are welcome to be a part of the chorus after going through a simple audition process. And of course, everyone is always encouraged to come hear us perform!
Our Mission:
To promote understanding and acceptance towards gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgendered people, build community and touch the lives of our audiences through musical excellence
DIVERSITY: The Voices of Sarasota started out as the Gulf Coast Men's Chorus in 1997 and made its debut performance on December 14, 1997 as the guest of the Tampa Bay Gay Men’s Chorus. Recognizing the need for a women's vocal group, Harmony: The Women's Voices of Sarasota was added in 2005. In 2008, we became one unified community voice as Diversity: The Voices of Sarasota.
DIVERSITY: The Voices of Sarasota has matured over the years and we will continue to grow along with our community. Thank you for joining us on this exciting journey.
